APPLICATION PERIOD IS CLOSED: Director of Conviction and Incident Review Unit (CIRU)
Description
This position will serve as the Director of the Conviction and Incident Review Unit (CIRU) of the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Office. The CIRU is a newly established, independent division which functions outside the traditional prosecutor's role and will report directly to the Prosecuting Attorney. The primary functions of the CIRU consists of the following:
Investigate credible claims of persons prosecuted by the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney who have been wrongly convicted or sentenced.
Investigate and where warranted, prosecute allegations of misconduct by police and other law enforcement personnel within St. Louis County.
Examples of Duties
Manage the Conviction and Incident Review Unit and supervise all staff.
Participate in the Leadership team of the Prosecuting Attorney Office.
Identify policies and practices that may lead to wrongful convictions and communicate this information to the Prosecuting Attorney.
Oversee annual training for assistant prosecuting attorneys to educate them on practices that can prevent wrongful convictions.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a Juris Doctorate degree from an American Bar Association accredited law school, current licensure or eligibility for licensure as an attorney by the Missouri Bar Association, and seven years of related experience to include substantial jury trial experience.
